We designed and made this cab bed for our daughter as the frame hammock beds we tried previously are not very comfortable and also a pain to set up. This bed transformed her sleep in the van and she loves having her own cosy 'room'. It makes the most of a space which would otherwise be unused. It won't drop out when you open the cab doors, and is light and easy to move around.
We wanted something simple and quick to set-up and with maximum comfort in mind so we set about creating this new concept.
Our bed sits across the three (or two) front seats and at it’s base is a two inch supportive foam mattress to complement the already comfortable front seats, and iron out the slight height differences between the seats.
On top of the foam base is a removable (washable) fabric cover and this forms a base sheet over the mattress. The foam is secured into the center of the bed by stitching thus leaving two 'Tabs' either side.
The 'Tabs' on each side are then used to attach the bed into the cab to prevent a child from falling out during sleep. There are eight elasticated straps (four regularly spaced along each side tab) that clip onto the headrests at the back of the seat and also onto the mounts for the front sun visors. The straps are not adjustable and measurements are always requested on ordering to ensure best fit.
The tabs are not only used for safety and securing the bed, they also have *optional* pockets in them for storage of devices, books or games etc. It also comes with a size-matched bespoke pillow and matching pillow case!
Our standard plain colours available are: Plain mid-grey, navy blue and black. Please note that the patterned bases shown on the photos are subject to stock availability with our suppliers - please ask first as it depends on the fabric stock available.
The Cab Bed is 60" long (door to door), 20" wide (front to back of seats - you do need to check this is suitable for your seats) and either 2" or 3" deep foam base, depending on your van cab specifications.
It takes just seconds to both put up and pack away. It comes with compression straps for stowage and is compact for it's size once packed.
We get asked a lot about age / height / weight. If your child (over 3 years of age) or teen - or even a small adult, can comfortably lie across your cab then the bed will fit, but only as long as they do. The cab bed sits directly onto the cab seats and the body weight is distributed across the bed.
If you have a different type of camper from a VW (we have made for Mercedes Sprinter, Renault Trafic / Master, Vauxhall Vivaro, Ford Transit Custom), we should be able to make something to suit - if you contact us first and supply us with detailed measurements.
